"If You Do It Right, It Will Last Forever" A Peek Inside the MoMa Featured Stacking Dinnerware Collection
by Charlotte von Meister on Feb 16, 2022
The Stacking Dinnerware collection is an award-winning 1964 mid-century modern design by the architect-design team Massimo and Lella Vignelli.
The dinnerware's original production design was only made of bright yellow melamine resin. And we were lucky enough to find 39 original yellow pieces of the collection in our treasure hunts that are now available online and instore.
In only 6 months the stacking dinnerware design was accepted into the Museum of Modern Art permanent design collection. When Vignelli licensed the design for production in the United States, a rainbow of bright colors were introduced to the market. Due to the collections sixties utilitarian chic style, range of colors, lightness, flexibility, and ability to be stored as a compact group its no wonder it quickly became a best seller.
Massimo Vignelli, who also designed NYC subway signage AND the Bloomingdale’s Bag, has been quoted saying “If you do it right, it will last forever.” A quote that seriously resonates with us at The Nest and our mission to support items, designers, and business who create designs that last.
